Stacy Siqi Zheng, MHC-LP

You are stepping into the world of professionals and realizing that your early 20s or 30s are not for the faint of heart! So many changes are happening simultaneously, and life transitions can completely throw you off balance. Anxiety and depression creep in, and you may also be dealing with grief, attachment issues, and family struggles. You are willing to explore yourself with a sense of self-reflection and have your own observations or topics to dive into. However, you hesitate to find a therapist who just "prescribes" three deep breathing techniques and tells you everything will be okay.

Well, I am not that kind of therapist. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ and POC community in New York, I strive to support and empower my clients through deep connection. I have extensive clinical experience in Australia, China, and the U.S., providing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed counseling using a person-centered approach.

I believe all changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind is a part of ourselves. People often want change, but they also resist it. Being here and taking the first step to get the care you deserve is an incredible thing in itself. If this resonates with you, I encourage you to reach out and schedule a consultation.

About Stacy

  • I have always been a curious person, curious about the world, difference experiences and people’s narratives. Ever since I was a little kid, I wonder “What is this person thinking? What is behind that decision?” This curiosity drives me to learn psychology, study abroad and become a therapist, the same curiosity that leads to my self-exploration, and my desire to understand others and form connections with people. We are all the same and unique in our own ways at the same time. I am curious about you.

I strive to hold a safe space for my clients with empathetic and compassionate support. French poet Jacques Rigaut said, “Don’t forget that I cannot see myself, that my role is limited to being the one who looks in the mirror.” I hope to become the mirror standing in front of you to make you feel seen and help you reflect. I typically do intakes in the first two sessions and make weekly appointments if we are a good fit. I rarely give advice or homework, as I believe you hold the strengths and have all the answers, my job is to help you see it.

On the other hand, playing is not a means to an end—the act of play, in and of itself, holds intrinsic value. It beckons us to be fully absorbed by the moment, to create instead of produce. As we play, we ask questions and set out to explore and experiment without demanding answers. Play embraces ambiguity.

Thereby conceiving therapy as a space for play, I aim to provide a dynamic arena wherein my clients can engage in the nuance processing of traumas, the exploration of possibilities, the articulation of needs and desires, and the discovery of self—all these heavy undertakings—in a space that invites curiosity, flexibility, fluidity, radical acceptance, and mindfulness.

  • I enjoy working with clients who are willing to explore themselves with a sense of self-reflection. I look forward to doing sessions with clients who bring their own observations or topics to dive deep in. I also appreciate feedback from my clients so that we can adjust our sails accordingly.

  • Being a therapist is a life-ling learning curve for me. One thing I’m learning to do is self-care, from scented candles and cat-sitting to saying no and keeping my boundaries. It’s easier said than done, but I can only care for others better when I can care for myself. Professionally, in addition to regular supervision and therapy, I’m doing more Continued Education training, and applying to more extensive trauma-related training such as IFS and EMDR.

  • I believe, all changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves. People often want changes, but people also don’t like changes. Being here and taking the first step to get the care you deserve, is an incredible thing in itself. Whether you feel anxious, resistant, or ambiguous about changes, it’s ok, we can slow down and take our time together.
