Jellin Lian, MHC-LP

I love working with you if you are open to honest conversations! You are someone striving to go further in the world, but sometimes you feel confused and unsure about what is good about yourself, what can be changed, and why you are suffering. You may identify as Asian, an international student, LGBTQ+, or someone navigating the challenges of OPT, H1-B, and the green card journey. That is tough and stressful!

I can personally and professionally relate to everything above, and I am here to help you. My name is Yijie, and I am a psychotherapist specializing in CBT, with additional modalities including, but not limited to, DBT and psychodynamic therapy. I provide a safe space for you, and with my active listening, I am happy to point out what you are doing great and in what areas you can grow. I hope to be there with you while you step on your journey towards self-growth!

I have explored various research articles focused on the aging population, which I found particularly enlightening. These insights gained from this work have significantly informed my practice, in ways of how I approach and support clients who are older adults, addressing the mental health concerns associated with aging and emphasizing the importance of social support systems.

There are unique challenges faced by elderly people, including loneliness, social isolation, family roles, stereotypes and the transition into retirement. I am here, as a young person with my own knowledge, experience, and perspective, to help you go through this transition.

About Jellin

  • I began my academic journey studying economics, but I soon realized that it wasn't the right fit for me due to its stress and lack if personal fulfillment I felt in the field. My interest naturally leans towards psychology, leading me to transfer my major. I received my bachelor's degree in psychology and continued my studies with a master's degree in mental health counseling. During my woek experience at a private practice, I discovered the profound impact that therapy can have—not only in helping others but also in fostering my personal growth. This experience solidified my commitment to becoming a therapist, as I realized how meaningful it is to support individuals on their journey toward healing and self-improvement. My work experience in a private practice exposed me to a range of issues and a diverse client population, which has shaped my practice to be flexible and client-centered, ensuring that I meet each individual where they are on their journey.

  • I tend to use a collaborative approach where we work together to identify your needs and the most effective strategies for your growth. Working with me, you can expect an intake process that involves getting to know you and understanding your goals. Progress in our work together might include noticeable shifts in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while navigating your challenges. I sometimes assign homework to reinforce what we explored in sessions.

  • I believe in the importance of personal responsibility in the therapeutic process. While I value the therapeutic support, I also hold the view that clients need to actively engage in their own growth and change. I encourage clients to take ownership of their progress and recognize that therapy is just one component of a broader journey towards self-improvement.

  • I tend to work best with clients who are eager to engage in self-growth and are motivated to explore and overcome their challenges. Such clients often seek a deeper understanding of themselves, looking to enhance their sense of well-being and build healthier relationships. As I believe motivation plays an important role in almost everywhere in life, it largely impacts the effectiveness in therapy as well.
