About Amanda Shih-han
-
I knew I wanted to become a therapist when I was in middle school. I always find it fascinating to build deep connections with people and to be able to support them throughout different challenges. However, it was not until I became a client myself that I realized, the beauty of therapy is not only to develop resilience and coping skills but also to build richer connection with ourselves- really understand how our mind works, how our past might impact us now and how we can truly become our best friend and biggest cheerleader. Being in therapy has been an amazing experience for me and I hope everyone can have that positive experience too. I majored in Psychology, minor in counseling in college and finished my Masters in Mental Health Counseling. I previously worked in community-based clinics in New York City where clients experience many sociological, psychological and emotional challenges. With that being said, I am very experienced with various of issues clients bring to the session and helped me understand the unique challenges of different population.

I take on psychodynamic and interpersonal approach to help build deeper connection with yourself- to better understand your feelings, relationships and behavior patterns. I am experienced in working with clients through life transitioning, goal setting and developing skills in coping with struggles in life. I believe therapy is like a workout for your mental health and strengthen your brain muscles. I am devoted to providing an empowering, empathetic, and safe space for you by using a holistic and culture-sensitive approach in forming a deep and mutual therapeutic connection. Let’s work together to re-connect with your needs as well as building stronger resilience.
-
My core values—authenticity, compassion, and curiosity—deeply shape how I show up as a therapist. Growing up bilingual and bicultural, I learned early on how complex identity can be, and how important it is to be seen and understood in one’s full context. These experiences shaped my belief that therapy should be culturally sensitive, emotionally safe, and deeply respectful of each person’s unique background. I aim to hold space that honors both individual experience and the broader systems that influence it, while gently inviting clients to explore who they are beneath the roles and expectations placed on them.
