Jenna Jiangnan Liu, LMSW

Life can be overwhelming and confusing. You might be struggling with self-doubt and inner conflict, constantly feeling like nothing you do is ever enough. Or perhaps, there’s a sense of emptiness that’s hard to shake, no matter how much you achieve. Challenging relationships and recent life changes can leave you feeling lost and disconnected. You may be seeking clarity, a sense of direction, and a way to break free from these patterns.

You want to feel more connected to yourself and others, to build a life that truly reflects who you are. It’s okay to need support on this journey. Finding a safe space where you can explore these feelings and experiences can be the first step toward the change you’re looking for.

If you’re looking to build healthier relationships—with yourself and others—you’ve come to the right place. I understand that reaching out for support can be challenging, and I’m here to walk alongside you through this process.

I’m Jenna, a licensed social worker and therapist based in New York. My therapy room is a space without judgment or outside expectations, where you can share the thoughts and feelings you usually find hard to talk about. Here, we can put aside societal expectations and focus solely on your true self and what you really need.

I believe that the dynamics and patterns in your relationships outside of therapy—including how you relate to yourself—will naturally show up in our sessions. This process is an important part of our work. In the safe, warm environment of therapy, I’ll guide you in finding ways to break down these patterns and make meaningful changes.

In my view, the end goal of therapy is for you to truly understand yourself and your situation, take responsibility, and gradually find inner peace. After our work together, you’ll have the strength and tools you need to face future challenges and live the life you want.

II’ve worked in mental health clinics in both the Midwest and East Coast. My approach combines psychoanalysis and humanistic therapy, along with practical tools from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Together, we’ll explore emotions and patterns to help you grow in a safe, supportive environment.

About Jenna

  • Growing up in a cultural environment where mental health was rarely discussed, I witnessed how many people avoided therapy, leading to the continuation of generational trauma within families. This experience deepened my commitment to becoming a therapist, as I wanted to break these cycles and create a safe space for others to explore their emotions, heal, and grow. When exploring people’s stories and inner worlds, I always maintain an open and non-judgmental attitude. In therapy, I strive to create a safe and warm space where clients feel heard and valued. I strongly believe in the power of self-exploration and growth and am dedicated to helping my clients face their challenges with courage. I have worked in diverse settings, including all-inclusive care for seniors, outpatient mental health clinic, and Asian community center. These experiences have given me a broad perspective on different mental health needs and the importance of culturally sensitive care. I have completed specialized training in Prolonged Grief Disorder Treatment and trauma-informed care, which have equipped me with practical tools to support clients through their unique challenges. These experiences and training have shaped my practice into one that is empathetic, client-centered, and adaptable to meet each individual's needs.

  • When working with me, I understand that opening up to a new therapist can feel a bit nerve-wracking at first. In our initial session, we’ll start by discussing basic information about the client, and the client'll have the chance to share their main concerns and challenges at their own pace. As we continue, I’ll follow the client's lead, allowing us to explore deeper issues as they feel ready. There’s no need to rush or feel pressured. Progress unfolds based on the client's comfort level, and each session is tailored to the client's needs. During our sessions, we’ll also practice practical coping strategies to help the client manage everyday challenges more effectively. This way, client'll not only have a safe space to explore their emotions and issues but also gain useful tools to navigate stress and difficulties in their daily life. I don't typically assign homework unless it feels helpful to client. I enjoy working with clients who are open to self-exploration and willing to engage actively in their healing process. I particularly appreciate those who are ready to confront their challenges, explore their emotions, and seek growth, even if the journey feels uncomfortable at times.

  • I enjoy working with clients who are willing to put in the effort and actively explore their personal growth. They often express a desire to "find real ways to change their lives," hoping to learn new coping strategies, gain deeper self-understanding, and make positive changes. I appreciate clients who are actively engaged in the process, ready to face their challenges, and committed to finding solutions.

  • I regularly engage in continuing education courses and workshops, focusing on areas like trauma-informed care, CBT, and humanistic therapy techniques. I’m always eager to learn more about holistic therapy. Collaborating with other professionals enriches my practice, allowing me to bring diverse perspectives and insights to better serve my clients.

  • One perspective I hold that might challenge conventional norms is my openness to discomfort in therapy. While I believe therapy should be a safe and nurturing space, I also see it as a place where meaningful growth happens by confronting uncomfortable truths and emotions. I encourage clients to embrace that discomfort, as it's essential for real transformation. I also recognize that healing can involve non-traditional methods, like astrology or discussing spiritual beliefs, which have often helped my clients find calm and clarity. While I practice evidence-based therapy, I respect that for some, astrology or other non-traditional approaches might provide a different lens to explore their identity, relationships, or life patterns.
